The notable point of difference comes in view when you actually use the camera. While 77D has been seen as more enthusiast camera, the EOS 800D DSLR Camera seems more suitable for beginners. At our first look, we have also noticed the EOS 800D bears the same touch and feel with 24 – megapixel with APS-C sensor. Nevertheless, it has come up with a few improved features.

As many have opined that the Canon EOS 800D has been designed and brought in the market place to appeal beginners, we cannot turn down the latest imaging technology it has brought with it. You have little or no complain with its DIGIC 7 processor, ISO functionality that goes up to 25,600.

Design and Build of Canon : EOS 800D DSLR Camera

When we got the first look at the Canon EOS 800D DSLR Camera, we were pretty impressed with its design and build. The body of the camera is built with plastic material. We are also happy as it is designed with sharp corner that is being made easy for grip when you are in the shooting troupe. However we still feel it could have been a little better given its budget.

Our user experience shows that the guided user interface is very useful feature offered by the EOS 800D. As an end user, this feature helps you better understand graphics and information that lets you explain effects of different settings in the camera.

Although we did not find noticeable difference between the pentameter and pentaprism in terms of viewfinder, pentameter used by the camera looks bit cheaper. This is not too much of a problem.

The guided user interface as we mentioned above, looks very beautiful and gives information on shutter priority mode, speed and so on. This can be enabled or disabled depending on your need. If you feel like enabling, you can enable it. If you don’t need, you can disable it and return to regular menu system.

The Canon EOS 800D comes with vari-angle touchscreen and we are quite impressed with its functionality. It gave us ample amount of flexibility while shooting from different angles even though we did not have suitable angle, many time.

The responsive Live View functionality of the camera also needs a mentioning here that you would want to use it as usually rather than using it in certain occasion. As a general perception and seen by many touchscreen functionality of the camera doesn’t seem very well always. But with the Canon EOS 800D, you will have perfectly light, reliable and responsive touch control functionality. This is great feature.

Many a times, experienced camera users find single-dial control system is annoying. But 800D comes with ample number of well-placed buttons such as ISO setting, drive mode, Autofocus point selection, Picture Style and son. This will surely shed their irritation caused by single-dial control syste.

The built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity feature offered by the EOS 800D DSLR Camera lets you connect your smartphone and compatible devices easily and transfer images and videos quickly and easily. This is done by using Canon’s Camera Connect app. But for connecting iOS device, you need to do it manually because it doesn’t allow Bluetooth to establish Wi-Fi connection automatically.

Performance of Canon : EOS 800D DSLR Camera

The Canon EOS 800D DSLR Camera comes with 45 Autofocus point with phase detection sensor and Dual Pixel Autofocus system. Both are pretty fast and reliable and the performance is quite good in this front. Images produced are pretty clear with natural color and tone.

Coming to the performance of the camera in terms of ISO, picture taken below the ISO range of 25,600 did not distort the quality. However, when the ISO range is increased to the maximum i.e. 25,600, the picture quality produced has a significant digital noise. That doesn’t mean you cannot shoot at this range and your images become unusable. Only thing you may need to do is to use image editing packages to do some cleaning job.

In our user review, we have seen the exposure system used by the EOS 800D is more variable. When focusing at your shot and reframing, you will notice there is a change in exposure produced. The auto white balance system of the camera also did a good job. You would not complain even when you take raw shot and correct it later.

The shift in exposure is particularly seen in high contrast scene like sunset. At this stage the camera changes its direction from exposing foreground to producing outline in weak light. This depends on the position of the Autofocus point. Though, this doesn’t matter to experienced photographers, new users may find it little hard to find their way. They ma not be able to get the same exposure more than once while the scene remains the same.

Overall, performance of the camera in terms of shutter speed, ISO sensitivity, aperture, burst mode shooting etc, has been quite good. We also feel the Canon EOS 800D DSLR Camera has been thrown in the marketplace targeting the budding photographers and family photographers rather than professional photographers.

Conclusion

The Canon EOS 800D features effective 24 Megapixel counts with APS-C CMOS Dual Pixel Autofocus system. The resolution which considered high is suitable for large prints and image cropping, if you need large size image. The performance of the ISO with 100-25,600 is as we have seen, is good enough in different light conditions. DIGIC 7 image processing engine with 4 Autofocus points very good taking into account the importance of speed and accuracy of autofocus and burst photography.

Though the camera doesn’t offer 4K video, we got full HD video with full manual control and did a good job with selectable rates and precision. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity lets you control the camera remotely and transfer image with no cable connection. The 3-inch touchscreen display is also great and you can play around with different shooting modes with its touch functionality while shooting.

You might not be very impressed with physical look of the camera. Also, if you are looking for a budget camera that is more suitable for beginners, the EOS 800D DSLR Camera might not fit in with your need. But overall features and performance offered will not leave a room for much complain, we hope !
